Preparing for an in-person handover
An in-person handover should leave time to identify the object, inspect the agreed details and pack it for the journey home. Set those expectations before travelling.

Confirm the practical arrangement
Agree on a suitable meeting place and time, considering both personal safety and the space needed to inspect the collectible. A busy public location may be appropriate for a small item, while a large fragile object may require a different planned arrangement. Avoid accepting a last-minute change that leaves you uncomfortable or unable to check the object properly.
Confirm the exact item, included accessories, agreed price and intended payment method in writing. Save the listing and relevant photographs on a device you can access at the meeting. Ask whether packaging is included and what you should bring. A model sold with its original box may still need an outer container for safe travel.
Prepare a short inspection list
List the few details that could change your decision: identity marks, completeness, a previously discussed defect or a measurement needed for storage. Bring a ruler only if you can use it beside the object without contact. Do not arrive expecting to dismantle or test a mechanism unless that was agreed and can be done safely.
At the meeting, compare the actual object with the saved description before completing the transaction. Check both sides where practical and count loose parts. If lighting or space is inadequate, address that rather than rushing. A handover is not an obligation to accept an object that differs materially from the agreement.
Handle payment and records deliberately
Use the agreed method and follow the provider's current guidance. Confirm transaction details within the actual service rather than relying only on a message or image shown by the other person. Do not exchange unnecessary personal information. For the collection record, a dated receipt or written acknowledgement should identify the object and amount without inventing claims about authenticity or condition.
If something has changed, document the revised agreement before proceeding. Keep the original description and the clarification together so the final record explains what was actually accepted. A verbal adjustment can be forgotten quickly once the object is packed and both people leave.
Plan the journey home
Use suitable support and keep the object from moving against loose accessories. Do not leave a fragile collectible unprotected on a vehicle seat or force it into an undersized bag. Check that documents and small parts are packed before leaving the meeting.
On arrival, record the acquisition and storage location while details are fresh. Keep the handover notes with the purchase record. If you decided not to proceed, retain only the information you reasonably need and do not present the uncompleted arrangement as part of the object's ownership history.
